Started Dogs

We occasionally find ourselves with a well trained dog that doesn’t meet our breeding standards or doesn’t produce pups, and at that time we sell them as started or finished gun dogs. We also plan to sell our females at or near the age of five. They will be at various stages of skill level, have usually actively hunted and many will have hunt test titles or field points. Please let us know if this may be of interest to you and we will give you a rough timeframe and put you on our waiting list.

KCK MISTY MORNING JH

MISTY

Misty is a dog I’ve truly enjoyed training. She loves it and responds well to corrections and is continuously improving. Unfortunately in the spring of 2006 she showed symptoms similar to EIC or Exercise Induced Collapse. After several episodes, we made the decision to spay her and continue on with her training to see what kind of a home she would fit into.

She has been upland hunted extensively the last two years. She never had an episode hunting and has hunted all day long both years as long as temperatures are below 45. Last year when temperatures were above this, I only hunted her 3-4 hours monitoring her condition closely and generally put her up not wanting to push her. Several of the warmer days above 60 she warmed up pretty quick, but so did the other dogs we were hunting with. During the 2007 pheasant season opening week she has hunted hard in at least two hour blocks without any issues with tempratures up to 60 degrees every day.

Last summer, it was easy to induce a loss of muscle control to her hind quarters when I would let out all our dogs and throw fun bumpers. She is very fast and competitive and almost always gets the bumper. This generally occurred around twenty minutes which is why we thought of EIC. Other than one occurrence on a warm afternoon pheasant hunting, this is the only time it’s ever showed up in the field. She was fine in any kind of training exercise by herself and as I mentioned, has shown no sign of even slowing down after a full day of upland hunting as long as its not too warm.

I am confident in her ability to fit into someone’s home that will pay attention to her and be aware of signs when she is getting worn out. She is not a dog who wears out easily and runs hard in both training and hunting.

Misty is an excellent upland hunter covering any type of cover at full throttle. She can easily quarter for 3-5 hunters and does so regularly. She has flushed and retrieved well over 60 pheasants last year alone and been a huge help in flushing and retrieving the 90 roosters we bagged the 1st week the 2007 season. She does multiple marks with confidence and accuracy and basic blinds, so combined with her hunt test training should excel as a waterfowl dog. She is incredibly steady in those situations.

Weighing in at 65 lbs, she is very affectionate, has a terrific disposition, is housebroken and does everything with lots of enthusiasm. I will continue in her training working towards Master level work. Financial and kennel needs force me to sell this remarkable dog. She leaves incredable memories for all who hunt with her.
